How to Remove Stuck Rusted Blower Motor Shafts
I have a Trane xl1400 from 1993. AC guy says run it till it dies. They don’t make them like this anymore.
Ted you put on a good tough exterior, but inside, you're all goo ! 🙂
Mr. Cook , what # of merve air filter do you recommend for a residential house ?
after 2 years in our new home I decided to have our HVAC checked before the Winter weather came in. After that visit the unit didn't work as usual. Intermittent and unreliable. Calls were made and was told it would be weeks before anyone would come out. I decided to look at the unit myself. What I found in the attic was an eye opener. Loose control covers, circuit board was loose and then I found it, the ground wire to the board was loose, I say loose as it wasn't tightened down. Any vibration would cause intermittent problems. This would certainly cause a second call and a quick fix for someone. from then on i do not allow anyone working on my equipment to leave with out me looking at it. I can say this after working with electronics in the military and civilian companies.
I just have to Agree with All the comments…Ted, you are the best in teaching us all your secrets of a Trade that is not DIY. My ears were Buzzing from an Helicopter sound…
When my cap died last summer neither the fan nor compressor would run but they were both hot. So I knew they were getting power. Replaced cap and it started right up. Now a couple weeks ago the contactor went so I used my wife's nail file to sand the contacts. It's been working fine but I need to get out there and put in my new contactor. I also now have a spare contactor and capacitor just in case.
no pride in workmanship
crap work
No scale?
Thanks for posting, nice simple fix. Those last gen reciprocating compressors have a higher pitch than the older fat pumpkin recips. Just curious, did that system have a TXV if so, I am curious if it starts every time after thermostat cycling, especially if it is a HSO TXV. Maybe it has a piston, which is then OK. Was at a customers once and they was wondering why on the hotter days, the thing would blow hot are for about 40 mins before working...Some one did not replace the Hard Start on it. This was happening for a few years as the bought the house...must have been the previous tenants that never had it fixed correctly.
Just tell the new install customer let’s keep a eye on the unit to see if the product is what the manufacturer says it is. Put it on them straight up.
From all the paper debris and damaged wires, I thought it looked like a start capacitor detonated. Don't see that as much in hvac condensers as you do in sanitary pump station panels. Good video. Thank You...
A DIY guy couldn't have got themselves in such a mess. Change your by-line to Anti PRO scammers.
That’s nothing I was working on a unit a couple of weeks ago that the cap had exploded. Dielectric fluid EVERYWHERE. Ended up having to replace the contactor, it kept getting stuck pulled in no matter how much I cleaned it. Pain in the butt.
A yankee technician would be a lot different with ahelecopter Steve larimoore for example
That condenser sure sounds solid ! Perked right up starting and immediately got to speed...sounds nice and quiet.
11/2012 TRANE
How long do capacitors last,my unit is 2011 ? Thanks
Make you up some alligator clip test leads for the meter to keep alongside the regular set. I find they come in handy at times, along with several sets of jumpers.
the nastyness of the nasty tends only to nastyness.simper fi carry on
Mars caps proven to last longer than the titans?
To all you homeowners out there. Check your condenser for which capacitor it has installed and buy one. Keep it on the shelf. It will eventually burn out on the hottest day of the year. For $16, change it yourself. Take a photo of the connections , shut the power and short the leads before swapping it out
Just curious what your opinion is on the Factory Start assist kits, why it did not get replaced and what could have made it fail ? Thanks. Like watching your videos especially since I have a 1985 2 Ton R-22 Trane and I love it. Keep it cleaned and, I don't let it cycle, I leave it run for a few hours in the morning and night then turn it completely off at the power panel so the transformer isn't even hot. It's just AC with the A coil on top of my forced air oil burner here in South Jersey. It's been 108 Heat index here for the past week but she is still putting out 52-55 degree cold air at the floor duct vents. The reason for the question regarding the factory start assist is: I have one for my unit but have never installed it. The pig tail is there to plug into for the start assist capacitor but I just haven't felt the need to put in in . Like to just get your opinion on the Factory Start assist if possible. Thanks and love your videos and your cool personality ! Great job !
That's the remnants of a capacitor that's blown up!!!! Notice no hard start cap?
Compressor sounds awesome!
Definitely needs further attention.
i joined your channel recently all the videos so far have been years old nice to see a modern one enjoying your video's very much from Scotland.
Welcome aboard!
Don't edit yourself sir make all the videos we'll watch them . MORE MR T .
It's what friends are for.
I have xr12 installed in 2000, still rocking baby! Trane sure used to make good products
Great video Ted back when trane was, still making good units before the microchannel disasters most American brands are doing these days. I hope you hsve bought up a bunch of 410a by the pallet before the prices shoot up so you can keep that unit running until it's dead which will probably be another 5 to 10 years. Happy 4 th Ted even though its over already.
No helicopter 🚁
It's not so easy when that leaks in an engine bay. And not sitting on a bench. I put a whole new AC system in and had trouble finding a leak with smoke with dye it didn't matter You couldn't hear it but it sure wouldn't pull it vacuum.
Nice fix Ted ... On to the next one !!! Thx
Steve Lav would be Singing She's a Crusty One Mr. GRINCH .
You're a trooper Ted! And a good former classmate...
She's A Dirty Girl !!! 😎👍
worst I ever seen
Nice! Very similar to the unit I put in for my mom back in 2002. I just posted my first heating and air video about it on my channel.
She runs way better than she looks! ;) That capacitor is about as bad as it gets and still keep the juice inside.
Great job Ted 👏 👍 👌 🙌
replaced a capacitor on a goodman yesterday for my son's family. i'm not a tech, but i could do it with confidence after watching your videos.
The $270 a year we pay for two annual HVAC check-ups and a free air filter is the cheapest insurance ever. Our previous R22 system lasted 20 years with no problems until the end, and we just got a new R410A this winter. The summer check up is next week.
That capacitor is ballooned up
#1🎉
I've trying to learn and really like your videos mostly because of your personality or character. I could be wrong but I thought I heard someone say to not use your finger on the contractor
I bet that is rodent damage
Thats so nasty dirty and gross its the worst ever
Capacitor should be a time change component?
Is the air blowing out the top fan of that unit supposed to be cold or hot?
